About us

Who are we?

We're students who want to help the local community. The restaurant industry has thin margins to begin with, and a global pandemic will see the closure of many restaurants in cities across Canada. Started by some students and a professor at the University of British Columbia, VANBCTOGO and CANADATOGO are online listing platforms for local restaurants across Canada. We are connecting people with restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic. By promoting the operating hours of restaurants across Canada and their takeout options, we encourage consumers to utilize restaurants’ respective websites and stray away from apps such as Skip The Dishes, Uber Eats, and other services that significantly cut into restaurants’ profit margins.

Meet the team

Catherine Li

Web Development

I'm a 3rd year business and computer science student who loves to solve problems with code (including this entire website!). When I'm not studying hard or getting involved with the local community, I love to do weightlifting and hike challenging trails.

Aarti Kamat

Business Development Strategist and Marketing

Hey! My name is Aarti and I am a 4th year marketing student at UBC. As a lifelong Vancouverite, I have always appreciated the role that small businesses play in bringing communities together. With an impact-first philosophy, I am keen to use my experience with design-thinking, marketing and social innovation to contribute to my local community. Outside of school, you can find me playing soccer, going for walks in the forest or trying to replicate Antoni’s recipes from Queer Eye.

Sienna Lalonde

Product Development and Marketing

Hey! My name is Sienna, a I'm a third year Sauder School of Business student at the University of British Columbia. My passion for cooking and the Vancouver food scene is what drew me to join the CANADATOGO team, although my favourite food will always be peanut butter toast. I look forward to working alongside fellow UBC students on this project, and hope to have an impact on both the restaurant industry and Canadians during this pandemic.

François-Clément Charbonnier

Lead Research/Data Collection

I am a third-year student enrolled in the dual-degree between Sciences Po and the Sauder School of Business at UBC. I grew up in Monaco before moving to Canada and, after graduation, I would like to pursue a career in either consulting or finance. I hope our project will help some businesses get through this unprecedented crisis.
